Abstract

The development of information technology has brought a significant impact on social life, including within the family environment. In Randuagung Village, the excessive use of social media has led to an addiction phenomenon that negatively affects household harmony. This study aims to identify the factors causing social media addiction and to analyze its impact on family harmony from the perspective of Islamic law. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving married couples, religious leaders, and community figures in Randuagung Village. Data were analyzed inductively using a source triangulation technique to ensure the validity of the findings. The results of the study indicate that the factors causing social media addiction include psychological, social, technological, and economic aspects. Its impacts consist of neglecting family responsibilities, reduced communication, increased conflicts, and diminished affection among family members. From the perspective of Islamic law, social media addiction is considered to contradict the principles of mu’asyarah bil ma’ruf and the values of sakinah, mawaddah, wa rahmah, which form the foundation of household harmony.
