The Implementation of the Rights and Obligations of Married Couples  in Rebalas Village: A Perspective  by Imam Al-Ghazali

Abstract

Early marriage remains prevalent in Rebalas Village, Grati District, Pasuruan Regency, influenced by cultural factors, family encouragement, and the perception that marriage can serve as a solution to issues related to social relationships and economic conditions. However, many couples who marry at a young age lack adequate mental and emotional readiness as well as sufficient understanding of rights and obligations within marital life. This often leads to problems in fulfilling financial responsibilities, division of roles, and family management. The findings of this study indicate that the implementation of husbands’ and wives’ rights and obligations among early marriage couples is uneven. While some couples are able to carry out their roles and household responsibilities in a balanced manner, others fail to fulfill their rights and obligations proportionally, both economically and emotionally, resulting in disharmony and even divorce. From the perspective of Imam Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali, the implementation of these rights and obligations has not fully conformed to the ideal concept due to limitations in readiness and awareness in carrying out each respective role.
